Liquids:

Chemical Industry

The water content of chemical liquids is of major importance for the correct chemical processing.

Very small contamination of transparent liquids can be determined in the UV-spectrum.

Applications:

Acetaldehyde, Acetone, Ammonia,
Benzene, Butanol, Butyl acetate,
Dimethylformamid,
Acetic acid, Acetic anhydride, Ethanol, Ethyl chloride, Ethylene glycol,
Propanol, Propylene oxide,
Nitric acid, Hydrochloric acid, Sulphuric acid, Heavy water,
Tetrahydrofurane, Toluene,
Vinyl acetate, Vinyl chloride,
Xylene,
Cyclohexane

Other Applications:

Organic contamination in cooling water or waste water,
NOx in Sulphuric acid, N2O4 in Nitric acid

Steel and Aluminium industry:

Most of the applications are about thickness measurement of a fluid-film on a steel or aluminium sheet that shall be applied for corrosion protection. The thickness can be immediately corrected if the measurement takes place directly after the coating.

Applications:

Fluid-film of water-based anticorrosive agents,
Traversing the measuring head over the width of the web to obtain a cross-profile,
Measurement of a fat layer - Paraffin

Car making industry:

The three major applications in this industry are:

Measurements in the Brake liquid:

A very common application is the measurement of the water content in brake liquid at the filling stage for brand-new vehicles.

Measurements at the windshield (laminated glass):

The moisture of the plastic foil (PVB) that is located between the two glass sheets of a layered glass is extremely important. If this moisture is too low, the foil becomes too brittle and breaks in the case of emergency.

Measurements at car body surfaces

In case of water-based paints, the thickness of a paint film can be measured before the drying stage.
